Our Mission
CME Purpose
Antidote exists to improve the care provided to patients by providing high-quality, relevant, and practical continuing medical education. Educational activities are based on identified barriers and practice gaps, and serve to enhance competence and performance in patient care, medical knowledge, practice-based learning and improvement, interpersonal and communication skills, professionalism and systems-based practice.
Target Audience
Antidote provides continuing education to the primary care team which includes primary care physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners along with relevant sub-specialty physicians and other healthcare professionals. Antidote seeks to provide education across the country, where possible, focusing our efforts on underserved areas and areas of greatest need.
Types of Activities
Antidote uses a variety of formats to conduct its continuing education. Live meeting formats include full-day meetings, half-day live meetings, dinner meetings and teleconferences. Enduring materials include online case studies and seminar recordings, e-mail and PDA activities, and CD/DVD’s.
Content Areas
Antidote utilizes the IOM core competencies as a basis for the content areas of our CME activities. With these core competencies as a foundation, content is developed based on the identified practice gaps of our audience and includes, but not limited to: chronic diseases, infectious diseases, neuropsychiatric conditions, gastrointestinal disorders, and other diseases or conditions generally faced by patients seeking care from primary care professionals as well as topics influencing the care provided to patients.
Expected Results of the Program
Antidote expects that its activities have a positive effect on the care provided to patients by improving the competence and performance of its participants. Clinical competence is measured using pre and post surveys. Performance is assessed by recording participant’s intentions to make changes to their practice or patient care and following up with those participants to see if they have been able to implement their stated changes.
